Lakes Region Big Band The Lakes Region Big Band is a full 20 piece Big Band based in Central NH. Started by a group of local musicians looking for an opportunity to play this great style, they have since been joined by past members of professional touring Bands and other professional NH musicians who love the vibe that this group puts out. Their high level of performance and energy has catapulted them into regular performances in the region and strong demand at events around the state. With a repertoire ranging from the swinging standards by bands like Glen Miller and Tommy Dorsey to the hard driving styles of Basie and Buddy Rich, to contemporary charts by Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band, the Lakes Region Big Band truly embraces everything you'd expect from a real, big, band. With guitar, mandolin, banjo and harmony singing, they bring together songs Mac learned from country radio in the 30's and 40's and songs Carolyn heard in the North Carolina Piedmont. For more than forty years, Bill has traveled back and forth across North America, singing his songs and delighting audiences at festivals, folksong societies, colleges, concerts, clubs, and coffeehouses. Singing mostly his own songs, he has become one of the most popular and durable singers on the folk music scene today, performing nearly 200 concerts a year and driving over 65,000 miles annually. He weaves a blend of gentle wit and humor into his performances and one reviewer wrote, "He has a sense of timing to match the best standup comic." His radio and television appearances have included A Prairie Home Companion, Mountain Stage, The Good Evening Show, and he has hosted local programs on PBS and network television. Now, well into his fifth decade as a folk performer, he has gained an international reputation as a gifted songwriter and performer. Saturday, June 25, 2011, 7:00 PM |

Tuckermans at 9 Tuckermans at 9 (tuckermansat9.com) performs well-known pop, rock, blues, and light jazz favorites from as far back as the 1920s, but mostly music of the 1960s to today. “Audiences of all ages enjoy our shows because there’s literally something familiar there for everyone,” explains Miller. “But because we choose songs that are just plain good, well-written songs, people really get into things they might not necessarily know, at least at first. We also have a lot of fun on stage, and it’s contagious for the audience! It’s really a show, not just a concert.” Tuckermans at 9's original, high-octane arrangement of the Temptations' classic Motown anthem, "I Can't Get Next to You", received praise from judges at the 2009 Harmony Sweeps a cappella competition at Tufts University in Massachusetts. From Tokyo to Rome and venues across the U.S., GRAMMY® Award-winning Guitarist Ed Gerhard’s music has touched audiences all over the world. Performing on 6-string, slide guitar or Acoustic Hawaiian Lap Slide, Gerhard’s virtuosity, generosity and sly humor shine through. His distinctive touch is unmistakable. Whether performing a lush, sensual ballad or a haunting, bitter lap steel melody Gerhard will mesmerize. Scott Alarik of the Boston Globe said it best when he wrote “Gerhard does not write instrumentals. He writes songs only a guitar can sing.” All of Gerhard’s CD releases have received high praise from critics and guitar fans worldwide, including the Boston Globe Critic’s Poll “Top Ten Albums of the Year.” Acoustic Guitar Magazine writes “…his recordings and live performances have established him as one of the most exciting of the guitarist-composers.” Gerhard was awarded a GRAMMY® for his inclusion on the CD “Henry Mancini; Pink Guitar.” His guitar work can be heard on CDs by Arlo Guthrie and Jorma Kaukonen and is featured in the Ken Burns’ film “Mark Twain” and “The National Parks: America’s Best Idea.” Ed’s CD “Luna” was just chosen by Acoustic Guitar Magazine’s 20th Anniversary List of the 240 Essential Albums. “This soulful album of original compositions rich in melody, chordal complexity and stylistic variety proves why Gerhard is considered to have the most exquisite guitar tone on the planet.” -Acoustic Guitar Magazine You can view video samples of Ed's guitar work here and here. With banjo, guitar, mandolin, concertina, bodran, octave mandolin, and heart-warming vocal harmonies, Two Old Friends tell a story in music of how immigrants came to this country from Ireland, Scotland, and Great Britain, bringing their melodies and instruments; and they show how the old time country ballads of the Appalachians are rooted in these tunes.
